PLEASE NOTE: WE WILL BE CLOSED FOR OUR ANNUAL HOLIDAY FROM 10TH SEPTEMBER, REOPENING WEDNESDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER. This is the first year we’ve taken a summer holiday, but we feel it is necessary this year in order to recharge and approach the autumn & winter months with as much energy as possible! NB we will be thinking about the festive season whilst we’re away and will have menus published by the end of September.
BRUNCH: now serving every Saturday & Sunday from 10am. Menu below.
Cornichon is a bar and bistro in Tarvin, Cheshire, about 4 miles from Chester, run by husband and wife Ben and Lisa, along with friend Jamie – who all relocated from Nottingham to open the restaurant in September 2015. The Gunnery is a Grade-II listed Georgian building that was once a family run corn merchants and grocers, the original shop fittings & one of the shop counters are still intact.
Our menu is devised from what is in season & inspired by what we love to eat. We make everything we can in house, including our ice creams, sourdough bread & burger buns, bacon, black pudding, soft cheeses, cordials & syrups. We source our coffee through Adams & Russell, a small batch coffee roaster based in Birkenhead. Our meat is from Farmer’s Meats in Chester, our real ale is from Weetwood & our frequently changing draught beers are usually from Wild Horse in Llandudno, Loka Polly in Mold & Mad Hatter in Liverpool. Much of our wine is sourced by the lovely Christopher at Covino (Rufus Court, Chester) who is an advocate of minimal intervention winemaking.
Alongside our main menu we run a set menu at lunch Tuesday to Saturday, all night on a Tuesday and until 6.45pm Wednesday to Saturday. We have a specials board which is constantly changing and tend to run quite a few specials at the weekend. Sunday lunch is served 12-4 every Sunday, and our ever popular burger night happens every Wednesday 5.30 til 9.
We received the award of “Best Newcomer” at the Taste Cheshire Food and Drink Awards 2016, and in 2017 we went home with a silver award in the ‘Best Small Restaurant’ category.
